The Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe has stated that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2024 election poses a threat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on OilCity Radio’s morning show, Oman Yi Mu Nsem, on Monday, the MP who doubles as the Minister for Public Enterprises revealed that Dr. Bawumia scares the NDC.
“If you want to scare the NDC mention Dr. Bawumia’s name. Listen to their communication they are unable to speak without mentioning his name, they are so scared of him.”
“To me and his [Bawumia] supporters, he is the next president of Ghana, unless he says he would not pick up a form. If he doesn’t pick up a form, we might beat him,” Mr. Cudjoe said.
He added that “Dr. Bawumia is very knowledgeable, a problem solver and you will be shocked to know how much knowledge he has. He is a gift from God to all Ghanaians. We’ve had the likes of the Nkrumah but I’m telling you that Bawumia is a gift to this country.”
However, several party stalwarts have contrary views and do not believe Dr. Bawumia is the frontrunner in the flagbearership race of the NPP.
The former Presidential Spokesperson and General Secretary of the NPP and flagbearer aspirant, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, believes that Ghanaians are yearning for a new kind of leader who is trustworthy and has the political will to take tough decisions.
According to him, he stands a better chance to win the election than Dr. Bawumia who is being framed by the media as the favourite.
A leading member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe who also endorsed the candidature of Francis Addai-Nimoh in the upcoming presidential primaries of the party stated that Addai-Nimoh is the unifier of NPP needs.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also warned the party’s delegates not to make the mistake of electing any other aspirant other than Francis Addai-Nimoh.
“Now let me warn the delegates, I want the delegates to be very careful because if you miss this man, you will regret it terribly. This is a man with enormous experience, and he understands governance and this is a man who is peaceful and will not run this country down, and he is a man the whole country should follow.”
