Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President, has gained an early lead in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) super delegates conference.
According to preliminary results, Bawumia has received more votes across the country, with Kennedy Agyapong and Alan Kyerematen trailing the vice president.
The Super Delegates Conference is being conducted to choose five presidential candidates to run in the party’s primary in November.
The five candidates with the most votes will advance to the primaries, where they will seek to be the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2024 general election.
Bawumia is the incumbent vice president and is widely regarded as the race’s frontrunner. He has the support of several key party figures.
Kyerematen, a former trade minister, is also considered a strong possibility. He has the support of a lot of businessmen and other significant people.
Kennedy Agyapong is a divisive personality, but he is also well-liked. He is well-known for his candour and willingness to confront the existing quo.
The NPP presently governs Ghana, and the victor of the primaries will be considered the frontrunner to succeed President Akufo-Addo, who is legally barred from running for a third term.
