High court judges in the Ashanti Region has declared an indefinite strike on May 31 in protest of unpaid allowances for 13 months.
Albert Ackah, the foreman general of the Jurors Association, revealed that the decision was made because attempts to get their allowances paid had been unsuccessful.
The change will have an impact on criminal cases where jurors’ services are essential.
The strike may cause court proceedings at the Kumasi High Court to be postponed indefinitely.
Speaking to the media, Ackah expressed concern over their behaviour but claimed they were forced into it because the circumstance was affecting their ability to support themselves.
Ashanti Region is proud to have more than 30 jurors.
The government has not yet made an official statement regarding the jury’s decision.
