The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah has assured the paramount chief of the Mampong traditional area, Dasebre Osei Bonsu II, that the government is ready to repair the damaged bridge connecting the main Kumasi-Mampong-Ejura-Yeji trunk road.
The bridge, which spans the Tatafro River on the outskirts of Asante Mampong, caved in a few months ago, disrupting vehicular traffic.
Briefing the minister and his entourage when they visited the site, the regional highway director, Ing Frederick Adu Agyei, informed them that drawings, designs, and other materials such as culverts were ready to begin the repair work.
Drivers using the stretch must now pass through Mampong Township, causing heavy traffic congestion.
The minister assured the chief that other roads, particularly the road leading to the dam, would be repaired.
According to the Ashanti regional director of highways, Frederick Adu-Agyei, all of the drawings/designs and other materials, such as culverts, were ready for the bridge to be repaired.
Prior to his visit, the minister inspected the first phase of a 30-kilometer road project being undertaken by the Urban Roads Department in Kwabre East Municipality.
KNAPO Construction Company is building nine kilometers of road. Amoako-Attah was impressed with the progress of the work and urged contractors to be more focused on finishing it.
According to Francis Gambrah, the Urban Road Director, the project is 35% complete, and he assured the Minister that work would be completed quickly.
