The Dome-Kwabenya constituency secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Theophilus Ansah Larbi, has voiced displeasure with the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for allowing the position of Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection to elude her control.
This comes after the decision by the President to revoke her appointment for being absent from her ministerial and legislative duties for months.
In an interview with Accra-based Citi television, the Dome-Kwabenya constituency secretary of the NPP, Theophilus Ansah Larbi mentioned that the MP had not been fair to her constituents.
“Adwoa Safo hasn’t been fair to her fans and constituents. She had the opportunity more than other people looking for the same opportunity in the party, and it was given to her because the President trusted and believed in her. But if it has gotten to this point, then it is very disappointing because the constituents were looking forward to some benefits from the Ministry upon her return.”
A statement from the presidency yesterday July 28, signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications, disclosed that the MP who is also a member of parliament for Dome Kwabenya, had her appointment cancelled by the president in compliance with article 81 (a) of the constitution.
This comes after Parliament yesterday debated her continuous stay in the house after absenting herself for more than 15 sitting days without approval from the Speake’s consent.
However, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, postponed his decision regarding Adwoa Safo, for her absenteeism and said he was going to submit a formal decision after Parliament had resumed recess.
In the interim, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, will continue to serve as the caretaker Minister for the Gender Ministry.
