President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is today, Monday, October 16, 2023, scheduled to visit the communities that have been adversely affected by the overflow of the Akosombo dam.
The President formed a nine-person inter-ministerial team under the leadership of his chief of staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, to plan the distribution of aid to those impacted by the spill.
Following the opening of the Akosombo Dam spillways, thousands of villagers in the Central and North Tongu districts of the Volta Region have been forced to relocate.
The President is anticipated to announce a significant government intervention after interactions with people and opinion leaders,
The inter-ministerial committee is chaired by the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, and other members include the Ministers of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, Ambrose Dery, Dominic Nitiwul, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Ken Ofori-Atta, and Daniel Kwaku Botwe.
Other members include Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Works and Housing; Kwasi Amoako-Attah, Minister of Roads and Highways; Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Minister of Environment; Freda Prempeh, Minister of Sanitation; Samuel A. Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources; and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information.
