A delegation comprised of the Minister of Education, the leadership of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, and officials from the Ghana Education Service is expected to visit the areas affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage to assess the impact on education and make appropriate recommendations.
Individuals and organisations like the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have urged the government to act quickly to guarantee that pupils in impacted villages do not miss out on an education.
The delegation is expected to find a solution to the problem promptly following the assessment, according to Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the leading member of Parliament’s Education Committee.
According to the Akatsi North MP, an emergency makeshift facility must be built to house the affected students in the interim.
“The Committee’s leadership, the Minister of Education, and GES officials will visit the locations to assess what can be done immediately.” Because there are no classrooms for the pupils, we must establish a makeshift setting for them to study. We shall examine the situation and subsequently make compliance recommendations to the Ghana Education Service and district assemblies.”
