President Akufo-Addo has delegated additional responsibilities to several Ministers to fulfil gaps in Ministries that lack substantive ministers.
On Wednesday, February 14, the president made his first significant cabinet reshuffle, removing some ministers and reassigning others to different ministries.
Among the prominent appointments, Railway Minister John Peter Amewu will temporarily supervise the Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry until Lydia Seyram Alhassan completes her vetting process, which has yet to be confirmed.
In a similar approach, Interior Minister Henry Quartey would oversee the Greater Accra Region until Nii Kwartei Titus Glover is appointed Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Works and Housing, will continue to oversee the Information Ministry until his former deputy, Fatimatu Abubakar, is vetted and confirmed by Parliament.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful will lead the Health Ministry until Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye is formally sworn in as minister.
Osei Bonsu Amoah will temporarily supervise the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry, awaiting approval of the permanent minister, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah. Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, has been appointed to manage the Oti area temporarily.
Hawa Koomson, the Fisheries Minister, will oversee the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection until Darkoa Newman takes over. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, will temporarily lead the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation until Ophelia Quansah Hayford takes over.
These Ministers will carry out their extra responsibilities to guarantee a seamless and efficient governance approach in their respective sectors until actual ministers are sworn in. This move is consistent with the government’s goal to improve administrative efficiency and performance across ministries.
