The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has attacked former Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, claiming that he has already lost his bid to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.
Mr. Kyerematen, according to Sammy Gyamfi, performed abysmally as Trade Minister and is thus unfit for the flagbearer position.
The NDC Communication Officer, speaking on Asempa FM, said he would be surprised if Mr. Kyerematen wins the NPP’s presidential primaries to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
The Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and the former Trade Minister, according to Sammy Gyamfi, will receive the fewest votes in the NPP presidential primaries.
Mr. Kyerematen has nothing to offer Ghanaians because he served in the government cabinet when the country’s economy was in shambles.
“I don’t want to hear the name Alan Kyerematen at all. If his results are correct, he will only be one point ahead of Dr. Bawumia [Vice President]. When the NPP goes to the polls, he will be the last one. Alan resigned as Trade Minister after a poor performance. Alan left the ministry with a 4.5% growth rate, compared to 7.9% in 2017.”
“In the NPP presidential primaries, Alan Kyerematen and Dr. Bawumia [Vice President] will receive the fewest votes. When the economy tanked, Alan was a member of the government’s cabinet. He couldn’t manage the Trade Ministry; how can he manage the entire country if given the chance? Ghana has regressed as a result of this government’s poor performance, and he simply resigned rather than finding solutions to the crisis,” the NDC Communication Officer insisted.
On Thursday, January 5, 2023, the Trade Minister tendered his resignation letter to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Many political analysts believe his decision will allow him to run a campaign to lead the ruling party into the 2024 elections.
