The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, is optimistic that the clause-by-clause revision of the law on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values, better known as the anti-gay bill, would be completed by the end of Friday, February 9.
After returning from break on Tuesday, February 6, the House is likely to resume its examination of the anti-bill today.
The law aims to criminalise LGBTQ and associated acts in Ghanaian culture.
In his opening remarks in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that the law is expected to be entirely revised by Friday.
“The Business Committee on February 5 programmed to have the first consideration of the bill beginning February 7, and we do anticipate that we will be able to get it to a closure by Friday [February 9].”
He also stated that the Ghana Boundary Commission and Ghana Hydro Power Authority legislation are under discussion.
