Illegal mining activities continue to pollute the Ankobra River which passes through the Ellembelle District and the Nzema East Municipality.
Some stakeholders blame this recent development to COVID -19 fight, which has received greater attention at the expense of the fight against illegal mining (Galamsey).
Some aerial view of the river as at today show that illegal miners are having a free day as its colour has changed from its natural state to brown.

Indigenes of the Ankobra community living along the banks of the river are not able to use the water for domestic use owning to the pollution.
