The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Asawase Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has reported his constituency chairman Faisal Dauda to the police after the latter accused the former of plotting to kill him.
Dauda claimed at a press conference that the Minority Chief Whip is in cahoots with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is plotting for the largest opposition party to lose the 2024 elections.
“Our party has a constitution, our party has its rules,” Mubarak said after making the report. “I listened to all the frivolous allegations and the criminal aspect of it is, somebody is planning to kill somebody. Murder is not a joke in our country, I’ve since reported it to the police.”
“And I hope our party will take our constitution seriously,” the lawmaker said, adding that “a lot of the things was an anti-party behaviour and our party frowns on them. I hope the party will take the necessary measures.”
The Asawase constituency is a stronghold for the opposition NDC in the Ashanti Region. According to political observers, the recent spat between the MP and the constituency chairman may cause cracks within the party.
The national executives, led by chairman Asiedu Nketiah, have embarked on a reconciliation tour in the Ashanti Region to mend most of the party’s rifts.
