Six people arrested in connection with the death of a soldier, Imoro Sherrif, in Ashaiman are scheduled to appear in court today, March 27.
The six were arrested for their alleged involvement in the soldier’s death.
On March 13, the six accused were charged with robbery and dishonestly receiving in violation of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960 (ACT 29).
According to police, two of the accused robbed the late soldier and stabbed him in the arm in the process.
The other four are accused of purchasing the deceased’s phone after it was stolen.
Following the death of Imoro Sherrif, the Ghana Armed Forces dispatched officers to track down the perpetrators of the crime.
As a result, some residents of Ashaiman and its surroundings were assaulted, a situation that has been widely condemned.
According to the military hierarchy, 184 suspects were apprehended as a result of the operation but later released.
However, the Ghana Police Service later revealed that an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of the six suspects between March 9 and 12.
Suspects Samuel Teteh alias Wiper and Abubakar Siddick alias Birdman, who allegedly attacked the deceased on May 4 and stole the late soldier’s iPhone, were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
According to the charges, two people stabbed Imoro Sherrif on March 4 in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region “for the purpose of stealing a mobile phone from Imoro Sherrif with intent to overcome Imoro Sherrif’s resistance to steal his mobile phone.”
Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, Safianu Musah Mohammed Yussif, and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim, the other four accused, have been charged with dishonestly receiving in violation of Section 146 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (ACT 29).
According to the prosecution, Ibrahim Abdul Rakib, a scrap dealer, “on the 4th and 5th of March 2023 at Ashaiman Taifa purchased an iPhone for GH300 from Samuel Tetteh and Abubakar Saddick knowing the phone was the one retrieved from the crime scene.”
Safianu Musah, a trader, is accused of purchasing an iPhone from Ibrahim Abdul Rakib knowing the phone was obtained through criminal means at a cost of GH35O.
Mohammed Yussif and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim, both drivers, are accused of assisting Safianu Musah in disposing of an iPhone for no other reason than to return it to the owner, despite knowing the phone was obtained illegally.
Meanwhile, sources within Parliament’s Defence Committee indicate that their investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
