Vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia has urged all Bawku conflict factions to work with the government and other important stakeholders to settle the conflicts plaguing the region.
Without peace, he emphasised, Bawku would not undergo the much-needed development it merits.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his deep concern for the frequent attacks, casualties, and weak security conditions in Bawku before the Chiefs and Queenmothers of the Upper East Region.
He expressed his deep sorrow over the ongoing conflict and emphasised the value of fostering peace rather than provoking conflict.
The Vice President expressed optimism that government-led efforts, including those supported by the House of Chiefs and the revered Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, would aid in establishing enduring peace in the region.
“As a native son of the land, I am heartbroken by what is taking place in Bawku. Because we are truly one people and should be working together rather than fighting, the conflict in Bawku is regrettable. I therefore hope that the initiatives the government has started through the House of Chiefs and the Otumfuo will aid us in establishing a long-lasting state of peace in the region.
“For us on the part of the government, we understand that to prevent conflict and to enhance peace, we need to make sure that development in Ghana is inclusive. Everybody must feel a part of the development that we feel in the country. When people are excluded they are more susceptible to extremist ideologies,” Dr Bawumia said.
Over the past ten years, Bawku has experienced significant conflicts that have claimed a large number of lives.
