The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has cautioned the Ghanaian media to exercise restraint and allow professionalism to guide their conduct in discussing the death of the former Chief Executive for the Assembly, Anthony K. K. Sam.
The Assembly has also warned the media to respect the privacies of their staff in terms of their medical records.
This was contained in a press statement released by the Assembly over the weekend.
“We further urge the media to be circumspect in their reportage and comments on the death of Hon. Sam and respect the confidentiality of his family and STMA staff medical records,” the statement read.
Giving details on the passing of the former Mayor for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, the Assembly revealed that his death occurred at the University of Ghana Medical Centre around 4:00pm on friday after he was referred to the facility from the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.
“It is with a heavy heart that the management and members of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) announce the death of the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Hon. Anthony Kobina Kurentsir Sam on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre around 4:00 pm.
“Hon Sam was admitted at Effia-Nkwantan Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 6, 2020, where he received medical treatment and subsequently referred to UG Medical Centre on Sunday, June 7, 2020, for further attention,” the statement revealed.
It further continued “The Assembly will in due course release to the public the burial and funeral arrangements as well as his profile. In the meantime, we urge the good people of Sekondi-Takoradi and Ghana as a whole to remember the family of our departed Mayor in prayers as they go through this difficult moment.”
