Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako-Attah, wants Parliament to form a bipartisan committee to probe allegations regarding which administration built more roads under the Fourth Republic.
The controversy over whose government has done more in the road sector appears to be raging after President Akufo-Addo claimed in his state of the nation address that his administration had built over 11,000 kilometres of roads across the country.
The Minority, on the other hand, maintains that the President has only built 6,000 kilometres of road.
Kwesi Amoako-Attah, addressing the floor of Parliament, stated that this topic will be resolved by a committee.
“I challenge any member of this country and go further and request that, if anyone is in doubt, this house can set up an independent bi-partisan committee to investigate the data and that the President under his leadership has done all the works in the roads sector.”
The Ministry of Roads and Highways dismissed as false charges made by the Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, that the Akufo-Addo administration is expropriating projects completed by the previous Mahama administration.
In delivering the State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Wednesday, March 8, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that his administration had built more roads than any previous government in Ghana’s 4th Republic history.
The Ranking Member of the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament in a statement said the allegations by President Akufo-Addo are “an awful lie that should not be perpetuated by no less a person than President Akufo-Addo. The effort to expropriate for his administration, the following projects, is very scandalising and such dishonesty must be called out and denounced by all”.
Nevertheless, the Ministry of Roads and Highways explained, “the Ministry wishes to declare that the concerns as provided by Hon. Agbodza contain certain mistakes and do not represent the whole facts,” in a statement issued on March 10, 2023.
