The Minority in Parliament has announced its decision to stage a protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
The Minority group had slammed out at the Bank of Ghana’s leadership over the GH60 billion financial loss incurred by the Bank of Ghana in the fiscal year 2022, as well as the printing of some funds to pay government expenses.
As a result, the group demanded the resignation of the Governor and his deputies, accusing them of mismanaging the central bank’s finances.
In a statement signed by the Minority leader, Hon Casiel Ato Forson, the group stated that the purpose of the protest is to “express our revulsion against the illegal printing of money (about GHS80 billion) between 2022 and 2021 by BoG for the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government which led to the hyper inflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022.
The Minority in Parliament will meet in front of Parliament before marching through Accra’s main thoroughfares, including Osu Cemetery, Traffic Light Area, Makola-Rawlings Park, Opera Square, and end at the Bank of Ghana.
Meanwhile, AriseGhana has also announced it intentions to join the Minority in a picket outside the Bank of Ghana’s headquarters to demand the resignation of the Governor, Dr Ernest Addison, and his deputies.
In a statement, AriseGhana stated that their decision to join the picketing is a result of the central bank’s unprecedented mess which it presently finds itself because of crass mismanagement by the Addison-led Board and management.
