British Airways is expanding its foothold in Africa by launching a new service between London Gatwick and Accra, Ghana.
BA’s new three-times-weekly route will supplement the airline’s existing daily service between London Heathrow and Ghana’s capital. From April 2024, the airline aims to launch a fourth weekly Gatwick-Accra flight.
“We’re pleased to offer our Ghanaian customers a greater choice of products and prices with 11 direct flights across two London gateways,” said Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ director of network and alliances.
“Overall, we’re doubling the number of seats between Accra and London next summer, with 55% more capacity than in 2019.” We are constantly seeking for routes and regions with growth potential, and Accra is one of those routes and Africa is one of those places.”
Virgin Atlantic, BA’s arch-rival, previously operated from Heathrow to Accra from 2010 and 2013, before suspending the route due to the high cost of fuel in Ghana at the time.
