Monica Nandara, 36, narrowly avoided being lynched by an enraged mob after being accused of stealing a baby at Kakraba junction in the Central Region.
Monica, who was said to be offering assistance to a homeless woman and her baby, was later accused by the homeless woman of stealing the baby, resulting in a mob action.
According to reports, on March 14, 2023, Monica Nandara, who owns a shop along the Nyanyano stretch and produces pastry products, was nearly lynched by an angry mob in the Kakraba area after accusing her of stealing a baby.
Some even suggested that she be burned to death to serve as a deterrent to others who might commit similar crimes.
This drew the attention of those nearby, who quickly attacked the vehicle and arrested Monica and her apprentice, accusing them of attempting to steal the baby and coercing the victim.
While some of the enraged mob physically assaulted Monica and her apprentice, others suggested they be burned to death.
Despite the fact that she survived the incident, Monica told Citi News in an interview that she is traumatised and is hesitant to help others.
She goes on to say that mob justice should be a thing of the past and calls for more public awareness of it.
The woman, whose identity Monica cannot recall, was later turned over to police after they were called, but she was later released.
Shivera Tiesar, Monica’s apprentice who was slapped by the mob, said she still feels pain in her cheek.
