Charles Bissue, the former Secretary of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, surrendered to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to an OSP statement, Bissue was arrested at 11:45 a.m. GMT and questioned by Office personnel. He was later released on bail.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor proclaimed Charles Bissue wanted last week after he failed to reply to the Special Prosecutor’s invitation to appear and answer questions about the continuing investigation into possible wrongdoing within the now-defunct IMCIM.
Charles Bissue, who is currently on trial for alleged corruption-related offences attributed to him in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s galamsey fraud documentary, is also being probed for alleged corruption concerns involving some expenses of the erstwhile Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.
Charles Bissue, on the other hand, obtained a court order pretending to quash the arrest warrant.
However, in what appeared to be a response to the court ruling, the OSP stated that an arrest does not require a warrant.
As a result, Charles Bissue’s arrest status on the website of the Special Prosecutor’s Office remained as wanted.
However, that was amended to reported once he turned himself in.
The Special Prosecutor disclosed in an accompanying statement that Charles Bissue was arrested, interrogated, and released on bail.
