The Coalition of Muslim Organisations Ghana (COMOG) has asked Members of Parliament to take a stand on the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and the Ghanaian Family Values Bill.
The religious group claims to be aware that several MPs are strongly involved in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender activities, however, this was not made clear during Parliament’s discussion on the measure on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media following the bill’s debate in Parliament, COMOG President Abdel Manan Abdel Rahman stated that parliamentarians must use all possible tools to cleanse themselves of such activities.
“We are giving those who are perceived to be supporting the LGBTQ+ community a chance to shine by using this platform. However, we continue to believe that each MP should seize the chance to present themselves clearly and clarify their views. People are aware that they act as LGBTQ community actors, operators, and boosters, but that is not what we observed. However, there may have been a subsequent indication during the debate, he pleaded.
He continued by saying that reducing wasteful government spending may make it easier to handle any financial issues that the measure might cause.
“We believe that there is nothing wrong with it and that the state won’t be financially burdened by it. We’ll have enough money to take care of persons who wish to move away from LGBTQ+ activities so that they can be taken care of if our legislators will minimise the expense and financial burden they place on the state by reducing the amount of V-8 they use,” Mr. Rahman stressed.
