he Concerned Citizens of Tarkwa-Nsuaem has commended Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Tarkwa for the rapid rehabilitation works on some portions of roads in Tarkwa by the company.
Anglogold Ashanti, through its Sustainability Department headed by Mr. Stephen Adjei, Senior Manager, Sustainability, has over the past three years offered this support to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
According to a Press statement issued by the group’s Public Affairs Directorate on Saturday after the leadership paid a working visit to the aforementioned project sites, the Group said: “We can confirm with a letter signed and copied to Anglogold Ashanti by Hon Gilbert Kennedy Asmah, erstwhile MCE for Tarkwa-Nsuaem requesting the company to assist the Municipal Assembly with Graders, Spent Ore and Tipper trucks to help with the grading and reshaping of the Tamso junction, DVLA road, Wassa Agona and Simpa roads respectively”.
The letter initiated by Hon Gilbert Ken Asmah some months ago was subsequently sanctioned by the said Mr Steven Agyei on Friday, 29th May, 2020 directing one of their site Contractors Maxmass to fix the aforementioned damaged stretch of roads to ease vehicular traffic.
The Group, whilst commending the company for using locally based workers for the works being done, said the reshaping and grading will reduce travel time and ease traffic congestion on these roads.
“The interesting thing is that the workers engaged on the road rehabilitation are locally based. The reshaping and grading shall reduce travel time, reduce traffic congestion, increase access to social amenities and markets, reduce the cost of transportation, and increase economic activities along the route. Drivers will have value for money by not spending so much on tyres and spare parts due to potholes which caused lots of havoc,” they stated in their presser.
The Group commended Hon Asmah and Mr. Stephen Adjei for the good works and continuous cooperation and support towards the growth and development of Wassaman.
The group also commended Municipal Urban Roads Engineer for his guidance and contribution towards the rehabilitation works and the Traditional Authorities too for their efforts in making the construction a success.
The Concerned Citizens of Tarkwa called on other benevolent organisations, Civil society groups, and Churches to all help in this regard to make Tarkwa-Nsuaem a model one.
