Ghanaian lawmakers have been directed to wear face masks to parliament — as the country’s Covid-19 cases rise to 16.
The measure is to prevent the spread of the deadly disease which has ravaged many countries across the globe amid lockdown and border closures.
Our parliamentary correspondent reports that a number of MPs from the divide were seen wearing protective materials as part of measures to prevent the disease from spreading.
“The Speaker himself and other leaders were spotted wearing nose masks indicating that the virus is real and can cause harm,” our correspondent reported during sittings on Friday.
It comes after two opposition MPs were directed to self-isolate in the next 14 days after returning from a trip from two Asian countries.
The MPs involved are Binduri legislator, Dr. Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem and Ayawaso East lawmaker, Mahama Nasser Toure.
They recently returned to the country from Japan and India respectively.
Some five parliamentary staff who returned from abroad have also been directed to do same.
