The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has launched its Cyber Security Awareness Month which will sensitize people to cybersecurity-related concerns, including regulations, as part of the month-long awareness initiative.
The Cyber Security Awareness Month which will commence on October 1, 2022, is dubbed: “Regulating cyber security: A public-private sector collaborative approach.”
The authority will also engage and collaborate with stakeholders to implement critical cyber security rules and strengthen industry actors’ capabilities.
The effort is part of the government’s five-year National Cyber Security Awareness Programme, called “A safer digital Ghana.”
Dr. Albert Antwi-Boasiako, acting Director-General of the CSA, stated that the initiative was important due to the rising reliance on the Internet, with its hazards and weaknesses being exploited by criminals.
“As dependency on digital technology surges, so does cybercrime. Cybercriminals are seizing every opportunity to exploit vulnerabilities against people, businesses, and organisations.
“This has a grave impact on the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and networks, including critical information infrastructures,” he said
He stated that the adoption of cyber security rules was therefore critical in dealing with both existing and emerging cyber dangers that had the potential to jeopardize the country’s digital benefits.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomaa Boateng, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the digital environment, emphasizing the importance of cyber security in continuing the nation’s digitalisation strategy.
“It is vital to have appropriate measures in place to protect our key information infrastructure, coordinate and respond to cyber security incidents, and cultivate a cyber-security culture for our socioeconomic development,” she added.
The President of the Accra Chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Daniel Gyampo, also noted that the awareness month is significant since it has the potential to attract investors.
