Paul Apraku Twum Barimah, Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, has been named the best first-time Member of Parliament in 2022.
Watch Parliament, a civil society group, recognized the outspoken member of Parliament.
He was named the best because of his extensive research, contributions to committee meetings, valuable contributions on the floor of Parliament as a first-timer, and insightful publications in print media and analysis.
His selection was also based on his contributions to electronic media on national issues such as oil and gas, mining, industry, energy, finance, security, and agriculture. Many people are surprised by his performance given that he does not even have a ministerial position to add to his portfolio.
Mr. Twum Barimah was chosen as the best among his colleagues in a survey conducted by Watch Parliament on Ghanaian technocrats and artisans familiar with parliamentary proceedings.
Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, was placed second.
Member of Parliament for Nhyaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, came in third place. Dr Kingsley Nyarko, MP for Kwadaso, finished fourth, followed by Dr Mohammed Amin, MP for Karaga, who finished fifth. Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah, Member of Parliament for Techiman, came in sixth, followed by Hassan Tampuli, MP for Gushegu in seventh, Alexander Akwesi Aquah, MP for Akim Oda in eighth, and Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Old Tafo, and Francis Asenso Boakye, MP for Bantama, in ninth and tenth, respectively.
Parliamentary monitors have described Mr Twum Barimah’s contributions on national issues on the floor of parliament as extraordinary, especially for a first-timer who should have been studying the trend during his first term in Parliament. Paul’s outstanding performance in Parliament stems from his close association with notable and experienced members of parliament such as Alexander Afenyo Markin, Deputy Majority Leader; Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh; and Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, who has accelerated his rise to prominence.
Paul Twum Barimah serves on the boards of the Bui Dam Authority and the Ghana Publishing Corporation, as well as the parliamentary Committees on Energy and Foreign Affairs and the Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee.
