Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, has committed to preserving and enhancing the Free Senior High School (SHS) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes if elected. Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the crucial role these educational initiatives play in the nation’s progress and the future of its youth.
He emphasized his administration’s dedication to ensuring that every Ghanaian child, regardless of their financial background, has access to quality education. Dr. Bawumia described the Free SHS and TVET programs as foundational to the country’s educational system and vowed to continue investing in these initiatives to create better opportunities for young people.
Dr. Bawumia outlined plans to strengthen these programs through increased funding, improved infrastructure, and the introduction of new curricula tailored to the needs of the modern job market. He also announced plans to expand access to TVET programs, ensuring that more students can gain vocational skills relevant to various industries.
“We will protect and enhance the Free SHS and TVET programs, which are transforming lives and changing the future for millions,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He also noted that since the launch of these initiatives, enrollment has increased by 83%.
“We are building the foundation for a well-educated, prosperous society. With Free SHS and TVET, we have achieved gender parity, with more girls gaining access to secondary education, which will positively impact society,” he added.
