The Electricity Company of Ghana’s Krobo District plans to continue installing prepaid meters in other sections of the District beginning in the second quarter of 2024.
The District Manager, Ing. Christopher Apawu, revealed this with a cross-section of the media at the office site in Somanya.
While prepaid meter installation is currently proceeding in the Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo districts, clients in Akrade and Atimpoku will soon have their genuine prepaid meters placed.
Pre-installation surveys and instructions on how the meters function have already begun. These will shortly be carried out in Akuse and Asutsuare, which are all part of the electricity distribution company’s Krobo District.
Overall, the District Manager stated that “over 10,000 meters will be installed for customers in all of these areas,” and that “all of these replacements will be at the expense of ECG, and no customer is expected to pay for anything about the replacement.”
He went on to say that “meter replacements are different from new service requests, hence, while replacements come at no fee to the customer, new service requests are at a fee.”
Customers were also cautioned “not to install unauthorised metres in anticipation that they will be replaced as this is illegal,” adding that “we already have data on all the meters to be replaced and any new addition will be identified and culprits will be dealt with accordingly.”
When questioned about the District’s working connections with customers, Ing. Apawu stated that there is a courteous and much better working relationship, revenue is improving, and it is hoped that customer services will continue to improve for better customer experiences.
He also urged consumers and, by extension, the broader public to support ECG and assist in protecting the company’s infrastructure.
