The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has arrested some personnel of the IT department of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in connection with a metre glitch that occurred a few months ago.
Due to metering system downtime in October last year, some customers in the Volta Region, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Winneba, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw, and Tafo were unable to purchase electricity credit.
Oilcityradio.com sources at ECG confirmed the arrest after the activities of the arrested staff were discovered.
Speaking to Accra-based radio, Asaase radio, CG managing director Samuel Mahama confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details.
“Investigations continue,” Mahama said. “Some of them were picked up, while others were asked to leave, so that conversation is up to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).”
“As for our information technology problems, we have done our best to come a long way. I will say most of them have been fixed.
“We are doing our best to intensify our security, both cyber and physical so that we can serve the people of Ghana better and make sure we are reliable in giving out the service we promised,” the ECG MD added.
