The National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Volta Region has said that former president John Dramani Mahama should run unopposed in the party’s flagbearer race before the 2024 elections.
In a statement issued by Mathias Alagbo, the NDC’s Volta Regional Youth Organiser, the group asserted that John Mahama “is the most experienced hand in Ghana today who has once led our country through difficult times and built solid economic foundations that everyone can attest to,” especially in light of the mess that the current [NPP] government has created.
As stated by the group, “is no need for flagbearer elections, but instead, the party should directly endorse the former president as flagbearer of the party for the 2024 presidential elections.”
Therefore, it requested that all pertinent party stakeholders, including the National Council of Elders, begin necessary engagements to achieve a JDM NDC 2024 Flagbearership role without contest.
The statement emphasized the need to reserve limited funds to help with rebuilding initiatives so that the country will have a better chance of winning the general elections in 2024.
The group argued that resources should be used to bolster party infrastructure and strengthen local branches in order to support its victory 2024 project.
They added that they would take responsibility to ensure John Dramani Mahama comes out victorious when their pleas are not heeded and elections are called.
