Amidst the surging cases of the COVID-19 pandemic, a group known as the “Loyalists of NPP” has called on the Western Regional Minister to institute a task force to check and enforce the directives from H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo – Addo aimed at containing its spread.
In a written statement to the Western Regional Minister and copied to Hon. K.K Sam and Hon. Kojo Acquah, both MCEs of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and Efia-Kwesimintsim Municipal respectively, the group had the chaise to complain about the notoriety of entertainment joints in complying with the Covid-19 directives, especially protocols relating to social distancing.
They therefore urged that these leaders to use their good offices to ensure that the directives of the President are complied with; to ensure the safety of the people in Western region in particular and the nation at large.
Below is the full letter and a copy of it:
Dear Hon. Western Regional Minister,
We greet you wherever you find yourself this blissful morning.
Big ups for the good works you are doing for your beloved Party and Nation. We wish you the best in all your endeavours and also assure you of our massive support in your endeavours.
Let us spare you with long talks and go straight to the reason why we are putting this down for your attention.
We all know how this Covid-19 has brought the world to its knees which begs for our collective efforts in combating it. As a result of this, all countries in the world have put up some measures to contain the Corona Virus to avoid it spread. In view of this, our beloved President has ban social gatherings such as Churches, Mosques, Funerals, Weddings etc in which the night clubs and bars were added to the lists later on.
It is surprising to know that; the ban has been totally flouted in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis. Loyalists of NPP took the pain to go around on Saturday and Sunday nights and to our dismay, most night spots were actively operative.
Choice Mart for instance closed around 12a.m on Saturday night and on Sunday night, we passed by the place around 11pm and they were still playing music with many people gathered doing their normal things as if there hasn’t been anything like a ban on their operation. Vienna City, Komfo Ase, MAGOV etc were not exceptions, they were all doing their own things against the President’s directives.
This is very disturbing and a step back towards our collective fight against the deadly COVID-19.
Loyalists would therefore like to plead with you to use your good office to enforce the directives from the President to ensure the safety of the people in the Region in particular and the nation at large.
Yours faithfully,
Loyalists Leadership
