Over 200 girls from Wa Senior High Technical School have been stranded after a fire razed portions of the school’s main girls’ dormitory block.
The fire broke out around 8:00 p.m. last night, destroying five rooms and the girls’ belongings in the one-story dormitory block.
The intervention of Ghana National Fire Service personnel was required to bring the disaster under control, preventing the fire from destroying the entire dormitory block.
Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Iddrisu Imran, who led the team of firefighters to the scene, revealed that the immediate cause of the fire was unknown, but that his organization had begun investigations into the disaster, which had displaced over 200 girls.
“The top floor of about five rooms was affected. The fire started before we arrived. We are doing everything we can to put out the fire. “There are no casualties; some of them were shocked and were taken to the nearest medical facility,” he said.
