The Kyebi Traditional Council has fiercely refuted reports that President Akufo-Addo’s garden in Kyebi was destroyed as a result of galamsey activity.
In a purported report, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng asserted that galamsey activities also resulted in the destruction of the president’s garden in Kyebi.
The chief of Kyebi, Osabarima Marfo Kwabre, however, stated to the media that the report was false and demanded that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng retract and apologise.
Osabarima Marfo Kwabre said the Kyebi Traditional Council, finds it demeaning that the president would rather permit his compound to be used for the same activity despite having pledged to address the problem of illegal mining.
“Nothing like that exists in Kyebi. In his report, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng made some completely false claims. There is nothing comparable. We feel very uneasy about the report. You want to destroy the man [President Akufo-Add] just as he is about to leave office, despite the fact that he has built his reputation over the years.”
The report was also referred to as “serious propaganda” by Osabarima Marfo Kwabre, who urged Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to visit Kyebi and demonstrate to them [traditional council] where exactly he was talking about.
“I wonder why people with high positions can bring themselves so low to that extent of telling lies…I don’t see the point because there is a house here with trees in it up to this point, and I’m not sure how we were able to dig the gold, remove the trees, and replace them.”
He added that current state of trees and the environment indicates that Prof. Boateng’s claims are inaccurate.
