An interim injunction was obtained to prevent the funeral service for the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III from taking place, therefore it is currently in limbo.
Although the service was supposed to take place this weekend, it is now uncertain due to the most recent injunction.
Regarding the funeral, seven family members have gone to court.
According to court records, the funeral planners are prohibited from holding the service for the next ten days.
The court’s order states: “It is hereby ORDERED Defendants/Respondents or the Funeral Committee chaired by Nii Otintor II, all members of the committee, their privies, workmen, assigns and all persons working through them are restrained from handling, organizing, touching performing or dealing with the remained of the Late Queen Mother, Naa Dedei Omaedru III in any manner for a period of ten (10) days.”
The plaintiffs in this case are: Michael Nii Ofei Danso of unnumbered House Accra, Principal Elder of Naa Dedei Omaedru We of Faase Accra, Ankobea of Ga Manye Naa Dedei Omaedru We, Charles Nii Kotey Kotey, Head of Naa Dedei Omaedru We Family of Faase, Accra, Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II, Oseahene of Ga Manye Stool and Principal Elder of the Naa Dedei Omaedru We of Faase Accra, and Nii Addey Oba-Aasaa II, Ankobea of Antie We of Kpone, Shippi Antie I, Saduase Shippi Kpone.
In December 2022, Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III passed away.
On June 19, 2023, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signed and inaugurated a book of condolences.
From October 15 to October 31, 2023, was set aside for the late Ga Manye’s last burial ceremonies.
Ahead of the final funeral ceremonies for the late queen, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, the Ga Traditional Council recently updated its regulation about the closing of stores.
Prior to this, the Council had ordered a three-day closure of all businesses and offices located in the Central Business District of the Greater Accra Region on October 26 and 29.
“This is a revision to our earlier notice dated September 4, 2023. In a recent statement, the Ga Traditional Council stated that it has decided that Accra’s stores and markets will only be closed on Saturday, October 28, 2023, rather than as earlier scheduled from October 26 to October 29, 2023, to October 31, 2023.
Additionally, from October 15 to October 31, 2023, all Accra markets, stores, and workplaces must be decorated in red and black, the official colours of mourning. We kindly request that everyone abide by this notice in its entirety.
