Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former chairman of the disbanded Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), has been invited by the Office of the Special Prosecutor to assist in investigations into alleged corruption and offences related to corruption in the mining industry.
Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng acknowledged the invitation in a press release on May 4.
“Earlier today, I received a letter from the Office of the Special Prosecutor inviting me to assist the Office, “as a person necessary for the investigation” into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences in respect of the activities and expenditure of the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).”
He also revealed that he has officially expressed his desire to accept the invitation.
“I have formally communicated my willingness to attend the invitation and to support the OSP in its work.”
On April 20, Professor Frimpong-Boateng created an uproar when a report he wrote on galamsey was leaked to the media.
A few NPP officials were accused of engaging in illegal mining activities in the report.
Leading NPP member Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Lord Commey, Oppong Nkrumah, and numerous others were among those mentioned in the report as were the director of communications for the presidency.
All of the individuals mentioned have refuted the accusations.
