The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has temporarily suspended the proposed 20% increase in transport fares.
According to a statement from the GPRTU, the suspension is intended to allow for stakeholder consultation with the Ministry of Transport on January 23, 2024.
Earlier, the GPRTU announced intentions for a 20% rate increase beginning January 24, 2024, citing rising fuel expenses.
However, the Transport Ministry urged the public to reject any reported 20% rise in transit charges.
According to the government, no negotiations with transport providers have taken place to evaluate transport fare.
