The Ghana Revenue Authority is relentlessly investigating and prosecuting 93 corporations for a variety of tax crimes.
According to Joseph Annan, the Accra Area Tax Compliance Coordinator, obstinate non-taxpayers may face legal penalties in order to enforce compliance with the country’s tax legislation.
This comment was delivered by Annan during a news conference following a recent VAT compliance enforcement action.
“We have 93 on our list, and another one is being sieved through; once finished, it will be added to the 93.” We’ll go over all 93 cases, and they’ll all go through the identical procedure. There will be a proposal for a complete audit, as well as a legal procedure.”
Mr. Annan went on to say that very soon, all taxpayers would utilise the computerised VAT invoicing system, making it harder for company owners to avoid paying taxes.
“The E-VAT will eventually cover all taxpayers but of course, it is a process. You don’t start a new thing en masse, you need to start gradually before you expand.”
