The Member of Parliament for the Tamale South constituency, Haruna Iddrisu on Monday went through vetting to contest the Tamale South seat.
The educationist Professor Bawa Abdul Fatawu, who has submitted his nomination to challenge the incumbent, is anticipated to challenge Mr. Iddrisu.
The NDC in the area has started screening candidates for the parliamentary primary. In total, 59 people have registered to run for office in the Northern Region’s 18 constituencies.
Three incumbent MPs, including Tamale Central’s Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, Tamale North’s Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, and Tamale Kpandai’s Daniel Nsala Wakpal, are running unopposed.
Hundreds of NDC supporters from the Tamale South constituency joined the member of parliament for Tamale South at the vetting grounds on Monday, the first day of vetting.
On day one, it was anticipated that candidates from six constituencies would be examined.
On Wednesday, the screening is predicted to be finished.
In a related development, NDC members running for several seats in the Greater Accra Region who have been vetted include Sam George, the MP for Ningo Prampram, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, who is running for the Adentan seat, and Elikplim Akurugu, who is running for the Dome Kwabenya seat.
