Former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has denied rumours that he is being considered as a running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, in the 2024 elections.
In a statement, dated August 9 the former Chief of Staff stated that he is not interested in such a position.
“I wish to dissociate myself from the sentiments expressed in the media by these groups and individuals. Although such groups and persons might be motivated by a genuine trust and belief in my personal capabilities, I wish to emphasise that I have expressed no such intention anywhere,” Julius Debrah said.
He urged various interest groups and individuals to refrain from exerting pressure on the party’s flagbearer to select his running mate, adding that Mr Mahama will make his pick at the appropriate time.
“I worked with [former] President Mahama and am still a close confidante of his.” I’ve worked with him long enough to know that he makes the right decisions at the right time. “He is not the type of person who would be lobbied for such a position,” he explained.
Debrah’s prospective candidature for running mate to John Mahama sparked speculation in recent weeks after a number of interest groups and people floated his name in the media.
Debrah was the Chief of Staff to then President John Mahama from 2015 to 2017.
