Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, the leading candidate in the 2020 New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries in the Kwesimintsim Constituency has disclosed that his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) dates back to his days at St John’s Secondary School in Sekondi.
Dr Armah made the revelation in an exclusive interview with Samuel Kojo Brace on the Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show on Monday morning. He said while in secondary school, he was one of two students appointed by the party to coordinate their efforts in second cycle institutions in the Western region ahead of the 2000 general elections which the party eventually won.
Dr Armah, who also doubles as the Executive Secretary for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has since served the party in various ways, including serving as a polling station agent, youth secretary, Tescon secretary and member of its Western Regional Communications Team.
As head of NaCCA, Dr Armah has been instrumental in the government’s education agenda and is widely celebrated for his success in rejuvenating the agency and delivering on the ambitious mandate set for it to conduct the widest and most comprehensive reforms of education content and assessment in the country for a generation .
Dr. Armah also stated that his decision to contest the primaries was borne out of his belief that serving others is the highest calling for any human being. He said he was inspired by his own rise from humble beginnings to assist others to reach similar heights.
He indicated that his vision for the people of Kwesimintsim if given the nod would be in the areas of education and skills training, entrepreneurship and job creation and boosting social infrastructure through innovative approaches.
Dr Prince Armah is challenging the incumbent Member of Parliament in a contest that has attracted national interest. The pollls are set to take place on 20th June, 2020.
