Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, flagbearer candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed not to be used by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against the party for which he has sweated and shed blood.
The former Bank of Ghana Governor bemoaned the NPP government’s failure of his businesses, saying he would be the last person to allow himself to harm the NDC.
According to him, the NPP government’s move hurt him deeply and he will never allow them to come between him and the NDC again.
Rumours circulated that Dr. Duffuor was being sponsored by the ruling NPP to run for the NDC flagbearership.
“I funded the NDC, so I’m NDC, and nothing can change my love for NDC. The NPP destroyed my banks and attempted to bring down every business under my control. I’d like to tell you that the NPP has harmed me more than any other member of the party. The NPP will never be able to use me to bring down the NDC. My main goal is to return the NDC to power and make Ghana better,” Dr. Duffuor stated.
He made the remarks while speaking to NDC delegates in Adansi Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region as part of his campaign tour in the region.
UniBank’s licence was revoked during the banking sector clean-up, which began in 2017, after the apex bank explained that the financial institution was significantly undercapitalized.
On March 23, the former finance minister and NDC flagbearer candidate submitted his nomination form at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
When he filed his nomination, the aspirant stated that he was committed to serving the party.
“I pledge to serve the NDC and Ghana by restoring hope and national pride in Ghanaians and putting our economy back on track for not only recovery but also prosperity.” We can do it because we’ve done it before. NDC will do it once more. Because of how our economy has been mismanaged, Ghanaians have tears in their eyes and pain in their hearts.”
