Former president and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has vowed to name James Gyakye Quayson as minister if he is elected as president in the 2024 election.
Prior to the by-election slated for Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, Mahama assured residents of the area when he spoke to them over the weekend
“He [Gyake Quayson] respects everyone and is a humble man who fears God. Nothing will stop me from selecting him as a minister if God grants me the presidency. Look at what he has accomplished in terms of development from his own funds, even as an opposition MP. Just consider what he would accomplish as a minister,” Mahama continued.
Following the annulment of the Mr. Quayson-winning 2020 parliamentary election in the region, the Electoral Commission set a by-election for Assin North.
Gyakye Quayson’s name had to be removed from Parliament’s records after the Supreme Court declared the election invalid and found the NDC candidate guilty of having had dual citizenship before registering to run in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Quayson was subsequently nominated for the by-election by the National Democratic Congress.
