Individual Pension Bondholders protested outside the Ministry of Finance on Monday morning, demanding that they be completely exempted from the ongoing Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
Around 50 bondholders wearing red armbands gathered at the Ministry’s headquarters with placards to express their displeasure with their expected inclusion in the program.
According to the group’s convener, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, they are “rejecting the government’s 15% coupon rate over the 5-year maturity rate.”

“We want to be completely exempt,” he added. We want the government to declare us exempt, just as they have the pension funds.”

“Our petition is already with them, so we’re picketing here until they listen,” he said emphatically.
As of the time of filing this report, officials from the Ministry of Finance had yet to meet with them.
They plan to stay at the Ministry for a few hours in the hopes of receiving a positive response.
