The MP for Tamale South, Mr Haruna Iddrisu has said, Ghana airport company has no right to introduce new charges on their own, according to fees and charges Act, since that would amount to illegality.
He explained that, a letter sighted by him dated 11 March 2024 from the company introducing maintenance charges of $10 and $ 20 dollars on one-way and all round trip airlines respectively of which these charges have not been approved by Parliament as the law requires.
Mr Haruna therefore called on Mr Speaker as a matter of urgency halt the transport minister, Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah to appear before Parliament to explain why such a decision.
Majority chief whip and MP for Nsawam Addoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh also supported the call but urged Mr Haruna Iddrisu to make such an issue known to leadership in order to make proper decisions by investigating such matters before it is put before the entire House.
The second deputy Speaker and MP for Fomena, Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah who was in the chair, invited the minister for transport to appear before the House on Tuesday 19 March 2024 to give a clarity on the matter.
