The Judicial Service has announced that the Court of Appeal’s sittings in four regional capitals will be suspended.
These cities are Tamale, Cape Coast, Ho, and Koforidua.
All appeals from the Northern Sector of the nation, including the Upper East, Upper West, North East, Northern, Savannah, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, and Ashanti regions will be heard in Kumasi, according to the Public Notice, while appeals from the Southern Sector, including the Western, Central, Eastern, Oti, Volta, and Greater Accra Region, will be heard in Accra.
“In view of this, all pending appeals in the Court of Appeal listed above are accordingly transferred to Kumasi and Accra respectively.”
However, Minority Chief Whip and Adaklu constituency MP Kwame Agbodza questioned the rationale behind the Court of Appeal’s closure in a tweet.
He finds it surprising that such a decision was made at a time when there is advocacy for the building of additional courts and the education of additional attorneys and judges in order to bring justice closer to the people.
