Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and member of John Mahama’s Campaign team, Peter Boamah Otokunor, believes the two other flagbearer candidates will withdraw and support Mahama.
His remarks follow the withdrawal of businessman Ernest Kwaku Kobeah from the contest after confronting the NDC’s vetting committee.
While speaking to the media after balloting for John Mahama, Otokunor stated that Ernest Kobeah’s choice to enter the contest was meaningless.
“Well, it’s a welcoming decision and I anticipated that we will get that from the other contenders. But it’s an election and everyone wants his name to be on the ballot, and we will have to go through it. If you ask me, it’s a needless venture for [the other contenders to be in the race with] the most marketed, the one with legacy. At this particular moment in our country, we need somebody who is experienced,” Otokunor stated.
Former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive Kojo Bonsu and former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor are contesting against former President John Dramani Mahama.
On Wednesday, March 29, businessman Ernest Kwaku Kobeah withdrew from the flagbearership competition by delivering a letter to the NDC’s elections committee.
After submitting his letter, the presidential candidate hopeful, who is a modern sewage system specialist and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of City Experts Ltd Group in the UK, expressed gratitude to the party’s National Executives.
The NDC’s presidential primaries have been completed, with John Dramani Mahama taking the top spot on the ballot.
Kojo Bonsu and former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor won the second and third slots respectively.
