Some vehicles were drowned in flood waters at Anloga Interchange in Kumasi, leaving hundreds stranded during the rain on Wednesday evening, March 8, 2023.
The rains first flooded the Anloga Junction to Adum stretch of the main Kumasi-Accra route, spreading to the other side of the road.
Vehicle occupants and passers-by were irritated and unable to cross owing to worries of drowning.
This caused high traffic on the stretch.
Several stranded commuters who talked with the media urged the relevant authorities to fix the persistent issue as soon as possible.
“The whole place is flooded, look at it, we cannot even cross owing to the traffic bottleneck. We’re trapped here, and the taxi driver over there can’t drive through the water. The government must intervene in this circumstance.
“I want to travel to the other side of the road and board a car to Aboabo, but I’m stranded here. The government should take appropriate action. When you talk about leadership, they say you don’t respect them, yet the MCE and DCE will all come and see this, but nothing will be done,” one of the trapped pedestrians remarked.
“What’s happening here today is much sadder, since we have so many big men over here, DCE, KMA Chief, MCE, MPs, and whatever. This has been going on for a long time, and they are meant to have figured it out once and for all. They are trapped here and have no way of getting back to their respective homes unless they sleep here or return to where they came from,” another added.
Meanwhile, portions of the New Kejetia Market also got flooded as a result of the rains.
