The spokesperson for the Member of Parliament for the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Mr. Jeff Yankey has downplayed the relevance of an insurance package initiated by his main contender, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah for 372 polling station executives in the constituency. He contends that Kwesimintsim does not belong to polling station officers, and it was not necessary for them to receive the welfare package.
Commenting on the insurance scheme, Mr. Yankey said the MP will rather concentrate on the needs of the entire constituents and not that of the NPP polling station officers in the constituency.
Mr. Yankey explained that “if you only select 378 people to do one year cover policy for them, then what will you say to the masses in general elections”.
Since becoming an MP, Mr. Mensah has been accused of ignoring the party’s long suffering polling station executives, who worked to bring him to power. Many have wondered why the MP would ignore phone calls from party executives and in some cases, speak harshly to them. The comments from his spokesperson and close confidante would seem to explain the MP’s attitude towards the party’s grassroots on whom the party’s organisation rests.
Reacting to the spokesman’s statement, an elder of the party, Mr. Asare, who was very surprised asked how one can leave his children in the house hungry and claim to be feeding the world. “How can anyone start counting from ten and think he can get it right? If you want it right, then start counting from one. Abodam koraa wobodam fi fie (even madness is better starting from home),” he remarked.
