The National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah, has been summoned to appear before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating a leaked recording on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, on Wednesday for additional investigations
Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, has also been summoned to reappear before the committee on Wednesday, September 13.
This follows the appearance before the committee on Tuesday of the IGP and three top police officials implicated in the leaked footage.
At the conclusion of the hearings, the committee’s Chairman, Samuel Atta Akyea, stated that all witnesses must attend with their attorneys on Wednesday for the committee’s sittings to continue.
“The witnesses should come back tomorrow with their lawyers. The IGP should come with his lawyers, the Minister of National Security should show up with his lawyers and proceedings will continue,” he stated.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, unequivocally denied any role in the planning of a covert recording with Bugri Naabu on Tuesday.
The leaked tape investigation has gotten a lot of attention in recent weeks.
The IGP, on Tuesday, September 12, appeared before the Parliamentary Committee investigating the audio. He refuted the allegations that he was part of a conspiracy to secretly record conversations of the three implicated police officers – COP Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare, and Bugri Naabu.
The IGP emphasised his commitment to respecting the law and protecting the Ghana Police Service’s integrity. He stated his willingness to fully cooperate with the continuing inquiry, promising to give whatever information or support needed to find the truth behind the leaked recording.
