Ashantigold SC, situated in Obuasi, has been relegated to Division Two after being found guilty of match-fixing in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 game against Inter Allies Football Club.
The ruling will be implemented beginning with the 2022/23 league season.
Last season, both clubs were accused of rigging their match, which Ashgold won 7-0.
During the game, Inter Allies defender Hashim Musah, who came off the bench, scored two own goals on purpose to foil the suspected match-fixing plot.
He requested his teammates to applaud him for thwarting an agreed-upon score of 5-1 in favor of Ashgold.
In later media interviews, Hashim Musah admitted that his actions were planned in order to derail the pre-determined outcome for betting purposes.
The Ghana Football Association launched an inquiry into the claim as a result of this confession.
The criminal inquiry was undertaken by the Ghana Police Service, while the sporting investigation was handled by the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee.
The GFA delivered the verdict after listening to evidence from officials and players of both teams.
