Matron at Asukawkaw Senior High School in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, Cynthia Delarko, was detained on suspicion of stealing meals intended for students.
In an interview with Asaase News, the assemblyman for the neighbourhood, Mark Oduro, stated that he had heard numerous allegations of theft by the matron.
He claimed that per his investigations, Delarko stole the food about twice per week.
According to allegations, she hired some drivers to pick up and deliver the goods in Hohoe.
Oduro reported that the matron had been given to the Katanga Police for additional inquiry.
Bags of rice and beans, large and small tins of canned tomatoes, and a gallon of vegetable oil are reportedly among the food items.
The government’s Free SHS Policy, according to Oduro, is being undermined by Delarko’s action.
John Sitsofe Nukunu, the school’s headmaster, declined to speak with the Oti regional correspondent of Asaase Radio.
Kennedy Frimpong, the head of the Katanga police, confirmed the arrest and announced that an investigation has been opened.
